What is included in the package?

The package includes three items: the kayak itself, a Bluewave deluxe padded seat with back support and a two-piece paddle. You do not need to purchase a seat or paddle separately. The kayak also comes fitted with 4 scupper plugs, a drain plug and 8 D-rings as standard built-in features.

How heavy is this kayak and can one person carry it?

The kayak weighs 21kg. That is manageable for most adults but it is worth noting it is not a lightweight boat. Bluewave have addressed this by fitting 4 ergonomic carry handles at various points around the hull. These allow two people to carry it comfortably or one person to drag and reposition it on land without straining.

What is the maximum weight this kayak can hold?

The maximum load capacity is 150kg. This covers the paddler plus any gear or equipment on board. For most adults with a day's worth of kit this is more than adequate. Keep in mind that loading closer to the maximum limit will affect how high the kayak sits in the water and may reduce manoeuvrability slightly.

Is this kayak suitable for complete beginners?

Yes. The 75cm width and the sit-on-top design both contribute to a stable platform that beginners find reassuring. The hull is designed to sit higher in the water than comparable kayaks of a similar size. This raises the paddler's centre of gravity slightly but the wide beam compensates for this and keeps the kayak stable. It is also listed as suitable for junior paddlers.

Where can this kayak be used?

Bluewave state it is suitable for rivers, lakes, estuaries and coastal sea use. The shorter 2.63m hull makes it particularly well-suited to rivers and estuaries where manoeuvrability matters. What material is the hull made from and how durable is it?

The hull is made from heavy-duty roto-moulded plastic at 4.5mm thickness. Roto-moulding creates a single seamless shell with no joins or seams that can split under impact. This makes it highly resistant to knocks against rocks, riverbanks and boat ramps. It is the same construction method used in commercial rental fleet kayaks which is why Bluewave cite rental fleets as a key market for this model.

Does the kayak have storage space?

Yes there are two storage areas. The first is a 6'' waterproof seal hatch that gives access to a dry storage compartment inside the hull. This is suitable for items you need to keep dry such as a phone, wallet or spare clothing. The second is a rear open storage area secured with bungee straps for larger or bulkier items. Eight D-rings around the hull allow additional dry bags or gear to be strapped on.

What warranty comes with this kayak?

Bluewave offer a lifetime guarantee against defects in materials or workmanship. This applies to customers in the UK. It is worth noting that the guarantee covers manufacturing defects rather than damage caused by use. Bluewave also note that rigid kayaks may occasionally arrive with minor cosmetic marks or scratches caused during transportation these do not affect performance and are not covered as defects.
